Position
Gavin Towers has a rare eye condition, Retinitus Pigmentosa (RP) commonly known as ‘tunnel vision’. The condition makes cells in the retina break down slowly over time, causing vision loss. Gavin took on the cycling challenge in order raise money for charity and awareness of the condition.
My role was to help tell Gavin’s story to the public. After researching the condition and hearing from Gavin about his and others’ experience of living with RP, I created simulations of what it is like to have RP and a website detailing his journey. This took the form of an interactive web experience, built using Html, CSS and JavaScript, which used cursor interaction to represent Gavin’s visual field; animations showing cycling through some of Gavin’s route from his perspective; and a website with information about the ride and RP. I also created real-time tracking of Gavin on a map for the public to follow him on his journey.
